Arsenal star Kieran Tierney hailed by former Celtic team-mate Callum McGregor

Callum McGregor believes  Kieran Tierney's excellent form for Arsenal can benefit the Scotland national team.

McGregor has been impressed by the recent performances of his former Celtic team-mate.

Tierney had struggled with injuries, but has been a standout since English football returned in June.

Speaking to BBC Sport, McGregor said: "He's been great. I saw him playing left-side centre back and I thought he was excellent.

"He's gone from strength to strength and is playing a bit wider now.

"I think they've got a settled team and he seems to be part of that. Everyone that knew him knew that, once he got over his injury worries, he had the quality to make an impact."

McGregor added: "To get Kieran back fit again and back in the Scotland squad is a massive boost."

Tierney won four Premiership titles with Celtic before joining Arsenal for £25m last summer.

His manager Mikel Arteta has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from the Emirates. As quoted by Goal, he said: “He’s not going anywhere. I really like him.

“I’m very impressed him. Everybody loves him at the club and he earns that every single day with the way he treats people, the way he works and the energy he brings to the place."
