Arsenal star Kieran Tierney hailed by former Celtic team-mate

Kieran Tierney has been hailed by a former Celtic youth team-mate.

The 23-year-old has become a fans' favourite at Arsenal, winning the club's Player of the Month award for June and turning in a series of impressive performances after English football returned following the shutdown.

Tierney's fine run of form was rewarded with an FA Cup winner's medal, when Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley.

Scotland left-back Tierney made 170 appearances for Celtic after beginning his career in their youths, and keeper Colin McCabe knew from an early age that he had potential.

McCabe, who now plays for Shelbourne, told the Irish Sun: “The first time I saw him was the Hibernia Cup in Dublin.

"I was on trial with Celtic and you could see he had something about him.

“His attitude and dedication were spot on and he had ridiculous talent to go with it.

"He always had a smile on his face and was always willing to do the extra bit.

"Arsenal is my club so I’m happy for him.”

Tierney joined Arsenal from Celtic for £25m in 2019.
