Arsenal star Joe Willock sends emotional message to Newcastle United fans after loan spell

Joe Willock has said an emotional goodbye to Newcastle United and the club's supporters.

Willock, who spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the Magpies from Arsenal, played his last game for Steve Bruce's team on Sunday afternoon.

Typical of his loan spell, the 21-year-old found the back of the net during his final game - with Newcastle beating Fulham 2-0 on the last day of the campaign.

The Gunners youngster scored in all of his final seven matches for the Magpies in a blistering end to the campaign, matching Alan Shearer's record for the club in scoring in seven Premier League games in a row.

Now, Willock has taken to his official Instagram page to say his farewell to the club he spent around five months.

The post read: "@nufc family Thank you for rocking with me. I will never forget the love you have showed me, the team, the fans , the city will always hold a special place in my heart #UTM (up the Maggies). Goodbye".

His form has been so good, that Magpies boss Bruce has opened up on how he hopes he will be playing in black and white again next season.

The Newcastle manager said this last week: "We always said that it was a double-edged sword, and we have to respect that he is Arsenal's player.

"We'll see over the summer whether we can test their resolve, but as I said from day one, I'd like to thank Mikel [Arteta] and Steve Round on the football side of it because they were instrumental in getting me him and letting us borrow him for a few months.

"He has been great for us, he's been great for Newcastle. When I see what he's done in the last few weeks and the names who have scored six in six, it's quite remarkable, so well done to Joe.

"Let's see. As I've said many, many times now, I've got total respect. Let's not disrespect Arsenal, he is their player."
