Arsenal star gives first impressions of new boy Nicolas Pepe

Arsenal forward Nicolas Pepe has received a huge vote of confidence from his new team mate Reiss Nelson .

During the summer transfer window, Pepe joined the Gunners for £72million from Lille where he bagged an impressive 22 goals and 11 assists last term.

Upon his arrival, Nelson has spoken highly of the Ivorian who he described as a 'great addition' to the squad that will spice up Arsenal's attacking threat.

Pepe made his debut off the bench against Newcastle at the weekend and replaced Nelson, who thinks the 24-year-old can live up to expectation.

He said: "He's settled in well and he looks a really good addition. We saw little glimpses on the pitch [against Newcastle] and you could see he has the flair we need on the right hand side.

"He can cut inside and shoot as well, so he's a great addition."

Pepe was joined through the doors at the Emirates by David Luiz , Kieran Tierney , Dani Ceballos , Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba - who returned to Saint Etienne on loan for this season.

None of the new faces started the 1-0 victory at Newcastle but could get their chance when Arsenal host Burnley this Saturday lunchtime.

Nelson will be hoping to retain his place in the starting eleven for the visit of Burnley, but admits he will need to fight for his spot with plenty of competition in the team.

He said: "I just want to take things as they come. I need to be prepared all the time for whenever I get the call-up because I know it's not guaranteed I'm going to be starting week in, week out with the team-mates we have.

"We have [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang , Pepe, [Alexandre] Lacazette . They are great stars and I'm still only young so I need to sit back and when I get my chance to take it."
