Arsenal star discusses Wilfried Zaha transfer interest as saga rumbles on

Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi would welcome the potential arrival of Crystal Palace's wantaway star Wilfried Zaha.

Ivory Coast striker Zaha is said to be keen to quit Selhurst Park this summer with the Gunners strong admirers.

Palace have already sold Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United in a deal rising to £50million and it is unlikely they will want to lose Zaha.

Arsenal have now stepped up their pursuit for the former Manchester United winger, while the Gunners are also keen on signing former Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco this summer.

And midfielder Iwobi does not feel threatened by rumours the Gunners will recruit in his position, insisting he would welcome either player should they sign for the north Londoners.

Iwobi told Goal : "I don’t have any idea of going anywhere else, I’m an Arsenal player.

"For a big club like Arsenal, you mentioned two great players so it will be exciting to have them.

"I don’t know anything that’s going on behind closed doors."

Nigeria international Iwobi made 51 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal last season but the arrival of Zaha or Carrasco, who currently plays in China with Dalian Yifang, could hinder his first-team chances next season.

However the Gunners star is confident that he's done enough for Unai Emery last season to prove he can play in various positions.

"I was involved quite a lot last season," he added. "Obviously you want to start as many games as you can but it doesn’t work that way when you have a team like Arsenal, you just have to do well and whenever the opportunity comes, do your best. I just have to say thank you for the opportunity he is giving me.

"I'm happy to play anywhere [for Arsenal], I'll play wherever I’m told to play. I've always seen myself as a midfielder, like an attacking midfielder but I'll always give my best whether I'm told to play in the middle or somewhere else."
