Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed he is in hospital battling malaria.
The 31-year-old Gabon international says he contracted the virus while on international duty last month.
He provided an updated to worried supporters as he shared a photo from his hospital bed moments before Arsenal kicked-off in their crunch Europa League quarter final clash with Slavia Prague.
He said: “Unfortunately, I contracted Malaria whilst away on international duty with Gabon a few weeks ago. I wasn’t really feeling myself the last couple of weeks but will be back stronger than ever soon! Will be watching my boys now...”
He joins a lengthy Arsenal absentee list that includes Celtic hero Kieran Tierney as Mikel Arteta's side desperately look to finish their uneven season with an automatic Champions League slot.
Aubameyang missed the win over Sheffield United on Sunday night and will recover before rejoining the group.
The club skipper has endured a tough season and missed the win over Tottenham because he was late to the stadium.
