Arsenal 'set to rival Tottenham' for £45m transfer of RB Leipzig star Marcel Sabitzer

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham target Marcel Sabitzer from Red Bull Leipzig.

The 26-year-old is attracting plenty of attention from clubs across Europe, with Leipzig believed to price him at around £45million.

Sabitzer scored against Tottenham in last season's Champions League, and they appear to be leading the race for the midfielder.

However, European football expert Julien Laurens told ESPN’s ‘The Gab & Juls Show’ that Arsenal are also "very keen" on landing his signature.

The Gunners have been linked with Sabitzer previously, and have made no secret of their desire to sign a more creative midfield player.

Sabitzer has scored three times in 16 appearances for Leipzig so far this season.

He still has 18 months remaining on his current contract, meaning he will likely be available for less than his asking price in the summer.

But the Bundesliga outfit are not keen on letting Sabitzer go in January, despite his interest in a switch to north London.

Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosch told Bild : "We wanted to end the year first, both sides will deal more intensively with the topic in the spring."

When asked about outside interest, Krosche added: "As I said, he has made a great development. It goes without saying that other clubs also notice this."

Meanwhile, Arsenal look set to send one of their own stars to Germany on loan for the rest of the season.

Defender Sead Kolasinac has featured just once in the Premier League so far in the 2020/21 campaign, and is now poised for a return to former club Schalke.

Arsenal are also said to be keeping tabs on Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig, as well as Norwich playmaker Emi Buendia, with a view to completing a transfer in January.
