Arsenal set to repeat Serge Gnabry transfer fiasco as director confirms cheap buy out clause

Konstantinos Mavropanos once again showed his ball-playing ability during his loan spell in the Bundesliga with VfB Stuttgart, but could he be a weapon to add to Arsenal's artillery going forward?

It's not for the first time as he netted his second goal of the season, in a similar, pleasing on the eye, fashion to how he opened his account for the German side, with a bursting run and firing into the back of the net.

He contributed to Stuttgart's first home win of the season as they overcame TSG Hoffenheim to move level on points with their opponents.

The Greek international once again staked his claim and illustrated his suitability to the evolving Mikel Arteta philosophy.

In his second season in the German top-flight he has always scored more than he did in the entirety of his debut season and his latest goalscoring exploits are one to be admired.

The 23-year-old dispossessed Sargis Adamyan before powering forward cutting inside gradually onto left-foot before stroking into the far corner to double the lead for Pellegrino Matarazzo's side. That goal coming four matchday's since he got off the mark for Die Roten when he took matters into his own hands pulling a goal back against SC Freiburg with his side three goals to the good.

Once again steamrolling forward, playing a one-two with Hamadi Al-Ghaddioui before smashing into the roof of the net although it come to no avail as they couldn't overturn the deficit.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, the German side could be the front runner's to secure the defender permanently triggering the obligatory option to sign the Greek defender for €3m should they survive the drop to the second tier.

However, with the depth situation at centre-back currently looking like Ben White, Gabriel, Pablo Mari and Rob Holding, there could be an argument for him to bed in as a third-choice centre-back.

Having already made seven senior appearances for the Gunners, the first of which coming three years ago, his current evolution has seen him become a similar player to what Mikel Arteta looks for in a defender.

His marauding runs are imperative for quick transitions from defence to attack, one's managers and head coaches now crave from the modern game, this season especially he has been able to add the goalscoring element to his game and most importantly for a defender he can pose as the front-foot tackler to thwart attacks from their core.

Recent loan models have proved dividends and this season for example has Reiss Nelson moved away on another loan, this time round to find his feet with Dutch side Feyenoord.

Other stories such as Serge Gnabry see the German go off to West Brom on a failed loan move before Werder Bremen snapped him up permanently and allowed for him to flourish in Northern Germany, so much so, he sharpened his tool enough to land a move to European giants Bayern Munich - somewhere now he has become a huge figure- and who can forget his quadruple against Spurs.

It is a wary, curious thought that should a similar avenue be taken that this could land another disappointing loss financially or in this case sanction a move for a potential bonafide starter in the coming years or short term, at the very least, a player who can suitably settle in should the defensive base succumb to injury.

All things considered, with just over six months of his contract at the club remaining, it could be foolish to allow a prospect bubbling with quality to depart whereas he could be considered as a serious defensive outlet for the Gunners.
