Arsenal set to receive overdue transfer windfall from crisis club Derby County

Derby County's off-field position right now is anything but enviable.

The club were placed into administration last month amid a worrying financial situation at Pride Park.

That brought with it a 12-point penalty as well as the club having to cut costs. Earlier this week 20 members of staff were let go as administrators seek to cut costs at the Championship club.

Now, a report by the Telegraph claims that the Rams still owe a sizeable amount to Arsenal for midfielder Krystian Bielik.

The Pole arrived at Derby in 2019 for a deal estimated to be worth up to £10m.

The report claims that Derby have so far only paid £2million worth of instalments for the former Arsenal man.

That leaves a gaping £8m that remains unpaid. But, Arsenal have reportedly been assured that they will receive the full amount of the transfer fee, despite the poor financial situation Derby are currently in.

It is thought that any new owner must pay the outstanding balance, as and when they take control.

The 23-year-old, who joined in 2019 on a five-year contract, has been blighted by serious injury issues in his time at Pride Park. He has had two long-term knee problems - the second of which he is still recovering from.

That has contributed to him making just 34 appearances so far for Wayne Rooney's side.

Giving an update on Bielik earlier this week, his manager said: "Positive news on Krystian, who will join in part of the sessions with us after the international break, which is really going to plan.

"Then, obviously, it is going to take a while to build himself up and get his confidence back in his injury.

"But it will be nice to have him part of the non-contact sessions with us, and for himself also to be back among the group."

Rooney's side are already back in positive figures following their 12-point handicap. They host Swansea City this afternoon, looking to bump themselves up to four points.
