Arsenal set to make history in Europa League if penalty shootout decides Olympiacos tie

Arsenal could make history in their Europa League clash with Olympiacos tonight.

The Gunners are into extra time in their Europa League last 32 clash with the Greek side, after Pape Abou Cisse netted the only goal of the 90 minutes, early in the second half of the game.

That cancelled out Alexandre Lacazette's away goal in the first leg in Greece last week, bringing the scores level at 1-1 on aggregate.

As such, the game has now gone into extra time, with Arsenal growing increasingly frustrated as they struggle to break down their Greek opponents.

But with no further score in the first half of extra time, the tie could be decided by penalties.

And that would be a first for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners having no previous shootout experience in a competitive fixture at their home ground.

Arsenal have had a number of penalty shootouts in cup competitions in recent seasons, but they have all been either away from home or at neutral grounds.

The Gunners' last penalty shootout came against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, when the Reds won 10-9 on penalties after a thrilling 5-5 draw at Anfield.
