Arsenal set to complete quickfire deal for Leandro Trossard after £26m transfer fee agreed

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Brighton winger Leandro Trossard for an initial £21million with a further £5m agreed in performance-related add-ons.

The 28-year-old now looks set to move to north London after having already agreed personal terms.

Mikel Arteta will get the boost to his attack that he has chased all month to bolster Arsenal’s bid to win the Premier League title.

It follows Arsenal seeing their campaign to land Mykhailo Mudryk hijacked by Chelsea, who secured the winger’s signing from Shakhtar Donetsk for £88.5m.

The Gunners have signed wantaway Belgium international Trossard despite interest from rivals Tottenham.

The winger, who can also play at false 9 and at wing-back, was secured for a favourable fee due to having just six months left on his contract.

He did, however, have a one-year optional extension which was not taken up by Brighton following a falling out with manager Roberto De Zerbi.

De Zerbi left Trossard out of his side’s 3-0 win over Liverpool and the former Genk star was described by his agent as “humiliated”.

Trossard has been in fine form for Brighton this season with seven Premier League goals, including a hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield. His last appearance for Brighton came against Arsenal in the latter’s 4-2 win at the Amex Stadium on New Year’s Eve.
