Arsenal set for unexpected windfall before January transfer window

Arsenal's finances are reportedly set to receive a welcome boost before of the January transfer window, with former youngster Jeff Reine-Adelaide linked with a move to Lyon from Angers.

The Gunners have recently concluded a busy summer which saw manager Unai Emery add six new faces to his squad.

In addition to completing moves for centre-back David Luiz, forward Gabriel Martinelli and a loan move for Dani Ceballos, the club also spent big on a number of targets.

Winger Nicolas Pepe arrived from Lille in a club-record £72m deal, while the Premier League side also spent a combined fee of over £50m on defenders Kieran Tierney and William Saliba, who joined from Celtic and Saint-Etienne respectively.

While Arsenal's spending exceeding £130m by the time the transfer window slammed shut, the club were able to raise funds to help Emery's summer spree through a number of sales.

After parting ways with the likes Krystian Bielik and Laurent Koscielny, the North London outfit also gave their budget a significant boost by selling Alex Iwobi to Everton on deadline day, in a deal that could rise to £35m.

And the Gunners' funds could be set for another increase, with reports in France claiming that former midfielder Reine-Adelaide is on the verge of a £18.5m (€20m) move to Lyon.

If the 21-year-old does complete the transfer from fellow Ligue 1 side Angers, Ouest France reports that Emery's side will receive 10% of the fee as part of a sell-on clause agreed when the player was sold a year ago.

After managing just eight senior appearances at the Emirates, the Frenchman impressed for the Ligue 1 side last term, scoring three goals and three assists in 36 appearances.

He recently faced his former side in a pre-season match and started the new league campaign with a goal against Bordeaux on Saturday.

The Premier League club have reportedly already benefitted from another former player after Ismael Bennacer completed a move to AC Milan.

The Algerian, 21, joined the Serie A giants in a £14.4m move from Empoli, with several reports claiming that the deal resulted in his former club receiving a chunk of that sum due to a 30% sell-on clause.
