Arsenal set for major injury boost against Leeds United as star man ready to start

Leeds United return to action this weekend against Arsenal.

The Whites will be looking to bounce back from consecutive defeats to Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

Yet their task will not be made easy against a Gunners side that have vastly improved in the last 12 months under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal will be sweating on the fitness of some key players going into the clash, however.

Here, via Football.London, is the latest from the Gunners' treatment room ahead of the clash.

Thomas Partey

After being withdrawn at half-time with a thigh problem against Aston Villa before the international break, the £45m midfielder was left out of Ghana's squad for this round of national matches.

Why Raphinha is ready to make an impact

Yet he says he hopes to be back in full training this week - and it is expected he will be fit enough to feature against the Whites.

Reiss Nelson

The winger has missed Arsenal's last two matches with a knee problem but he is expected to be back in full training this week.

It should mean he is fit enough to be available to play against Leeds.

Calum Chambers

The defender is continuing to make progress after a ruptured ACL in December last year.

He featured in Arsenal under-21s' EFL Trophy tie against Gillingham last week but he is not expected to be deemed fit enough to play a part against Leeds.

Pablo Mari

The 27-year-old suffered a significant ankle sprain against Manchester City in June but is now back on the grass.

Mari is expected to be integrated back into full training after the international break, meaning it is unlikely he will play against Leeds.

Gabriel Martinelli

Highly-rated forward Martinelli has been sidelined since June after suffering a knee injury.

He has had surgery to repair the issue and is now ahead of progress, returning to running outside alongside a strength and recovery programme.

There is still some way to go until the 19-year-old regains fitness, though, and he will not play against Leeds.

Kieran Tierney

Full-back Tierney played 120 minutes for Scotland in their penalty shootout win over Serbia to reach Euro 2020.

He then featured for Scotland in a 1-0 defeat to Slovakia on Sunday and, if he features against Isreal on Wednesday, there will be question marks over whether Tierney will be fit enough to feature against Leeds.

Fatigue could be an issue due to some length trips over the last week.
