Arsenal set for January departures after Mikel Arteta and Edu make key decision

Arsenal will attempt to offload Mohamed Elneny and Sead Kolasinac in January, football.london understands.

Both players' contracts expire at the end of this season meaning that they will be available to leave this summer on a free transfer unless an agreement is reach over an extension.

However, neither are thought to be in Mikel Arteta's long term plans and the decision has been taken to try and obtain a fee for them while it is still possible.

Edu is thought to be keen to get their wages off the books, with Kolasinac in particular one of the highest earners at the club.

Both were subject of interest from Turkish clubs in the summer.

Elneny attracted interest from Galatasaray who were looking to sign the Egyptian midfielder having had plenty of time to watch him during his loan spell at Istanbul rivals Besiktas.

The 29-year-old has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Albert Sambi Lokonga and the return of Ainsley Maitland-Niles this summer, and despite the long-term injury sustained by Granit Xhaka during September's North London Derby victory he has played just 44 minutes of Premier League football this season all of which came in the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Kolasinac has also featured in that defeat at the Etihad but has generally found himself down the pecking order at the Emirates this season.

The arrival of Nuno Tavares from Benfica means that he is now third choice behind the Portugal under-21 international and Kieran Tierney in the left back spot, while Pablo Mari and Gabriel are ahead of him for the left sided central defensive birth.

The Bosnian secured a loan move to Schalke last January and could look to move for good this time around if Fenerbahce reignite their interest.

He is close friend of Mesut Ozil and attracted interest from the German's current team in the summer window just gone, but there was said to be a gap when it came to an agreement over wages.

From both players perspectives though it may make sense for them to hang on until the end of this season where they will be able to secure higher salaries and signing on fees as free agents.

Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are also out of contract in June, but it is thought that the pair are likely to stay in North London with the Frenchman in particular being viewed as a key part of Arteta's plans.
