Premier League 2020/21 fixture 'leak' shows Arsenal set for huge opening day clash

Mikel Arteta could be set for a baptism of fire in his first full season as Arsenal manager, with a fixture 'leak' suggesting they will face a mammoth opening match for the second time in three seasons.

The Gunners took on Manchester City on the opening day in 2018/19, with a trip to Newcastle last season. And they could now be set for another defining clash in 2020/21 - Manchester United.

The new Premier League season is almost upon us.

The interrupted 2019/20 campaign has not long finished, with the coronavirus disrupting the season and that has not left long between seasons, with 2020/21 due to begin on September 12 - just four weeks away.

And that means a quick turnaround for the Premier League in terms of preparations for the new season.

Ahead of any campaign there is always much excitement and much of that ramps up when the full list of fixtures are released.

Is Willian worth it and what next? James Benge and Art de Roche dissect the deal

The fixture list will be out officially today, with the reveal set for 9am on Thursday, August 20.

Of course, it will be tinged somewhat this year, with no clues as yet as to when fans will be allowed back into stadiums following the coronavirus pandemic.

However, there is always anticipation ahead of a new season and fans will be keen to know who their teams will be playing first.

Has there already been an indication of that though?

The hugely popular fantasy football game on Fantasy Premier League has launched for the new season and they always tell you who each player will be playing next when you pick your squad.

But they may have 'leaked' the opening day's fixtures already, with some eagle-eyed fans suggesting their squad showed who the players would be playing next.

The ability to see that has now been removed, perhaps with someone at the Premier League noticing and changing the coding, but some supporters have already been talking about the opening day.

Chelsea fans picked up on the 'leak' and it suggests that Arsenal could be away to Manchester United on the opening weekend of the season

Arsenal and United have shared a great rivalry down the years and it would be the standout clash of the first weekend if these fixtures are found to be correct.

Of course, they could just have been used as placeholders, but it could also be true.
