Arsenal are reportedly in line for a windfall of £3m if Barcelona defeat Juventus in the Champions League final next month, courtesy of their former defender Thomas Vermaelen.

Vermaelen is yet to play a single minute for Barcelona this season, having arrived with an injury and seen his fitness problems continue following a £15m transfer.

That transfer is believed to have featured a number of potential bonuses, including a payment of £3m should Vermaelen win the Champions League with Barça.

The fact that he has not played for the Catalan club is reportedly not an issue.

Barcelona would get 40 winner’s medals to distribute through the squad and the Belgian defender, an unused substitute for the first leg of the semi-final win over Bayern Munich, is likely to be among the recipients.

Arsène Wenger’s Arsenal are ready for the match against Manchester United, which will be key in deciding which team qualifies automatically for the Champions League
