Arsenal set for £15m transfer windfall as Serie A side make decision on midfielder

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly a key target for current loan side Fiorentina, after a string of highly impressive performances have helped push the side up into the top six with just 15 games played so far.

Torreira, who also spent last season out on loan with eventual La Liga champions Atletico Madrid, has fallen out of favour under current manager Mikel Arteta and Fiorentina.it report that La Viola could look to trigger the reported £15million fee required to secure his signature.

Joining the Gunners from Sampdoria back in July 2018, the Uruguayan initially impressed whilst at the Emirates and helped the side to the FA Cup success against Chelsea in a year primarily hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With reports also circulating about his desire for a move back to his native South America for personal reasons, a deal could not be struck last summer. But his performances in Italy have again sparked interest surrounding his future.

Proving to be hugely influential for Fiorentina this season, reports from Italy suggest Torreira is fast becoming a crucial part of the Tuscany-based clubs future plans, with his defensive mantra a key component of their current adapted playing style.

Featuring in all but two Serie A fixtures so far this season, Torreira has been deployed in the centre of a midfield three, sitting just in front of a backline including talented youngster Igor Julio and another South American in Lucas Martinez.

But with new additions Albert Sambi Lokonga and Thomas Partey seemingly preferred by Mikel Arteta with their extra size and ability, this could mark the end of the 25-year-old's time here in London as he looks to continue his football journey elsewhere.

With just one year left on his current Arsenal deal, the Gunners could look to cash in at the perfect opportunity and recoup some of then £26 million fee they paid for his services 3 years ago.
