Arsenal sent stern transfer message over Sander Berge by Sheffield United boss

Arsenal have been sent a warning amid their interest in Sheffield United star Sander Berge.

The Norwegian has been linked with a move to Emirates, as Mikel Arteta looks to freshen up his midfield this summer.

Berge, 23, joined United in early 2020 for a fee of £22million but injuries have restricted him to just 32 appearances for the Blades.

He missed virtually all of the second half of last season - a campaign that was disastrous for United as they were relegated with a whimper, whilst adored manager Chris Wilder left the club prior to their demotion being confirmed.

Earlier in the summer United were said to have put a set price tag on Berge's head amid constant speculation over his future.

Now, new boss Slavisa Jokanovic has said that he will do all he can to hold on to the midfielder as he looks to mount a promotion challenge.

Addressing speculation over Berge and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (who has also been tentatively linked with Arsenal ), Jokanovic said; "I never expect players to leave. I know there is talk about two and they are two of my best players.

"So of course I don't want to see them go.

"I am aware of the situation with one (Berge). I am aware of the possibilities that are out there.

"But him, the Norwegian guy, I also know the qualities he has got and how good he can be for us next season.

"So when I have the chance to meet him, to sit with him, I will try and make him stay here with us.

"I will try and make him stay because of his qualities and his ability, which would be very good for us to have going forward."

It is expected that Arsenal will be busy in the off-season, with the signing of Brighton's Ben White set to be sealed once England's participation in the Euros is over.

Meanwhile, Granit Xhaka looks poised to exit the club and head to Jose Mourinho's Roma.
