Arsenal sent positive Dayot Upamecano transfer message by RB Leipzig chief

RB Leipzig are expecting bids for Arsenal target Dayot Upamecano during this transfer window.

Arsenal are considering Upamecano, 21, as Mikel Arteta bids to strengthen his defence this month.

The Frenchman is contracted to Leipzig until 2021 but has so far refused to sign an extension.

Arsenal are believed to be among a host of clubs keeping tabs on the situation and sporting director Markus Krosche admits Leipzig are braced for bids before the transfer window closes.

"Dayot is currently one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga, so it would surprise me if no clubs came knocking for him," he said.

"He’s certainly an attractive player for the big clubs in Europe but he can still take a few steps forward and develop with us."

Arteta is keen to strengthen his defence this month with Calum Chambers out for the rest of the season with a knee problem.

Shkodran Mustafi had been lined up for a move away from the club but could stay put if Arsenal cannot sign a replacement.

Meanwhile, Arsenal face paying up to £6million to sign PSG left-back Layvin Kurzawa this month.

Kurzawa, 27, is out of contract at the end of the season and is free to talk to foreign clubs this month.

Arsenal have held talks with agent Kia Joorabchian over a deal for the left-back but would be interested in signing him this month.
