Arsenal sent clear Martin Odegaard transfer message as Edu prepares formal offer

Arsenal have been sent a clear transfer message in relation to Martin Odegaard as Edu looks to step up his pursuit of the Real Madrid midfielder.

Last week, football.london brought you the news that the Gunners are set to make a formal offer for the Norway international, after he signalled his intent to leave Los Blancos this month.

Odegaard is understood to be concerned over his role in the Spanish capital, with Carlo Ancelotti already having a wealth of midfield talent to choose from.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have a shortlist of creative midfielders they want to bring to the club, with Leicester City star James Maddison on there, but a deal for Odegaard now seems more likely.

The 22-year-old, who has just under two years remaining on his contract in Madrid, spent the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal and impressed during his short spell in north London.

However, a future at Real Madrid looks unlikely for Odegaard - with the midfielder being left out of Ancelotti 's matchday squad for their La Liga opening day victory against Alaves at the weekend.

Now, his international manager, Stale Solbakken, has been speaking about Odegaard's situation at Los Blancos and a potential return to Arsenal.

Solbakken said to Aftenposten, via Sport Witness : “I don’t know more than that it is of course a clear signal for Martin.

"He played regularly in the practice matches, either from the start or with a lot of playing time as a substitute."

Then, when asked about returning to the Emirates Stadium and whether it would be a good move for Odegaard, the Norway boss replied: "I'm sure it is.

"He has many opportunities, many who want him. So, he, his representatives and his family will find out.

"He has been very good at picking out the right clubs in the past."
