Arsenal 'send scouts' to watch ex-academy star as they consider January transfer

Arsenal have reportedly sent club scouts to cast an eye over their former academy star Glen Kamara no fewer than six times.

The Rangers centre-midfielder was released by Arsenal in 2017 after failing to force his way into regular first team contention.

Kamara, 24, made just one appearance during his spell with the Gunners, in the League Cup fourth round loss to Sheffield Wednesday in 2015.

But the Mail report that Arsenal are now considering a move for the Finnish international, having watched him in each of Rangers last six fixtures.

He has become a key member of Steven Gerrard's side at Ibrox, making 29 appearances already this season.

Rangers only signed Kamara in January 2019, and paid £50,000 to complete the deal that month ahead of schedule after he had signed a pre-contract agreement to join them in the summer.

Kamara had rebuilt his career at Dundee prior to his Rangers switch, which followed loan spells at Southend and Colchester before his release by Arsenal.

He has also been capped 14 times by Finland, and helped them to qualify for Euro 2020.

Arsenal are expected to be active in the January transfer window, and have also been linked with a move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The 21-year-old centre-back has been on the Gunners' radar for some time, and Arsenal chief Raul Sanllehi he was aware of Upamecano's talents.

Two fans approached transfer guru Sanllehi in the stands at the Emirates with a photo of Upamecano on their phone.

The supporter suggests he's a "very good player" to the Spaniard, earning a nod from Sanllehi as he smiles and replies "yeah, I know" before refraining from adding any further details.

It is believed the video was taken back in October as Arsenal took on Vitoria in the Europa League.
