Arsenal 'scout Red Bull Salzburg star' Hwang Hee-chan after starring against Liverpool

Arsenal are reportedly tracking Hwang Hee-chan, the Red Bull Salzburg forward who embarrassed Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk in the Champions League last night.

Hwang starred in Salzburg's comeback from 3-0 down in their Champions League clash last week, only to see Liverpool eventually prevail 4-3 thanks to Mo Salah's winner.

The 23-year-old South Korea international scored Salzburg's opener to start off the fightback.

He made light of Van Dijk's reputation as the world's toughest defender to beat, turning the centre-back inside out before firing home.

Hwang has plundered seven goals in 11 games this season - including two in the Champions League - and is being watched by clubs across Europe.

And Arsenal are leading a number of Premier League clubs who are tracking his progress, with Crystal Palace also interested, according to the Mail .

Hwang, who is friends with Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son, looks likely to move at the end of the season as his contract with Salzburg expires the following summer.

He can play anywhere across the attacking line and was Salzburg's star man in last week's clash at Anfield.

Most of the build-up to last Wednesday's thriller had focused on Hwang's team-mate Erling Braut Haaland, who also scored on the night and has been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United .

Salzburg's other scorer was Japan international Takumi Minamino, who had Liverpool fans urging their club to swoop for him with his impressive performance.

The Austrian club's fightback against Liverpool came after they signalled their intent in the Champions League by thrashing Genk 6-2 in their opener.

Hwang also scored in that game, while Haaland - the son of former Leeds United and Manchester City defender Alfie Inge Haaland - netted a hat-trick.

Also on target that night was 18-year-old midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, another who has been linked with Arsenal .
