Arsenal's transfer policy which hints at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang decision amid Barcelona links

2020 could be a significant year for Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabon international has been a brilliant signing for the Gunners ever since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 as he recently netted his 50th goal for the club.

However, there are concerns that Aubameyang won't be at the Emirates Stadium long enough to reach a century of goals.

Amid the north London outfit's struggles under Unai Emery over the past month which has placed a top-four finish under serious threat, there's been rumours that Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in signing Aubameyang next summer.

Furthermore, The Athletic claim that Champions League football is key to the 30-year-old's future.

With that said, could Aubameyang be sold at some point in 2020?

Well, football.london  has taken a look at the new transfer policy installed at the Emirates by managing director Vinai Venkatesham and head of football Raul Sanllehi to give us somewhat of an indication.

"We need to make sure we are really disciplined," Venkatesham told the club's official website in May. "A good example of that is senior players that aren’t towards the end of their careers, we need to make sure that those players, when they’ve got two years left on their contract, we’re making the difficult decisions.

"We’re either renewing those players' contracts, or we're selling those players.

"So we’re going to have to be brave with those decisions along the way, because we can’t be in a situation where we are allowing players to walk out the door for free unless they are coming towards the end of their career."

If Arsenal are to adhere to this new transfer and contract policy then Aubameyang is at risk of being sold at some point in 2020.

Aubameyang does seem happy in north London and has recently been appointed as club captain, but in the case there's no Champions League football on offer next season, Arsenal chiefs will have a big decision to make.
