Arsenal's Thomas Partey explains why he's called The Octopus and has tattoo of sea creature

Thomas Partey has revealed why he's known as 'The Octopus' and how he's embraced the nickname.

Arsenal signed the former Atletico Madrid midfielder on transfer deadline day after triggering his £45million release clause.

The 27-year-old will significantly bolster Arsenal's midfield, providing a strong core presence.

And speaking at length about his move for the first time, Partey explained why he's known as 'The Octopus'.

The midfielder has even embraced the nickname and had the sea creature tattooed on his right arm.

“I always say, if I would be an animal, I would be an octopus," he explained.

"I remember when I was in Almería they called me ‘the octopus’ because I stole a lot of balls."

Arsenal fans will be hoping Partey will be able to bring his ball recovery skills to the club prior to this weekend.

The Gunners take on Manchester City in what is expected to be the Ghanaian's first game.

"Everything is possible," he responded when asked if he fill the glaring void in Arsenal's midfield.

"I know I am not going to give up even if [in] bad situations I need to work hard. I have been there, I have been in situations like that. Now I think I know that working hard and giving all of my best in every game will determine if I live up to [the fans’] high expectations.”
