Arsenal's stance on Kieran Tierney transfer explained amid Napoli links

Arsenal have no intention of selling Kieran Tierney this summer after reports linked the Scottish left-back with a potential summer move to Napoli, football.london understands.

The 23-year-old has become a fans' favourite following his solid performances in defence for the Gunners and he recently scored a brilliant solo effort in the 4-0 win over West Brom earlier this month.

Serie A giants Napoli have previously competed with Arsenal for targets including Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Magalhaes, while football.london understands the likes of Bernd Leno also chose to sign for the north Londoners instead of the Italian side.

A source close to Tierney told football.london that a potential exit 'wouldn't go down well with the fans' while another close to the club admitted that there is 'no chance' of it happening.

Tierney joined Arsenal for £25million in August 2019 but had his first season disrupted by a shoulder injury. He returned to the team after the coronavirus break and was an important part of the defence which helped Mikel Arteta's win the FA Cup in August.

“Since the moment I joined the club, I have seen a player with enormous talent and with the perfect attitude and commitment,” Arteta said.

“I think he can be Arsenal captain as he has the respect and admiration of every member of the staff and every player.

“It is just the way he is. He does it in a natural way. He is a really shy boy as well but he represents all of the values that we want to instil.

“He can still improve but he is a real threat in attack and really solid in defence. You see how he behaves on the pitch and when he talks he says the right thing.

"He is exactly what we are looking for and I am so happy to have him in the team.”

The former Celtic man has made the most appearances out of any Arsenal player this season and has created more chances from open play in all competitions for Arteta's side this season than any other player.
