Arsenal's stance on Eddie Nketiah's future at Leeds United deals blow to Bristol City hopes

Arsenal reportedly have no plans to recall Eddie Nketiah from his loan at Leeds United.

Leeds beat Bristol City to taking the 20-year-old on loan in the summer, but his game time at Elland Road has so far been limited.

Whilst he would have been playing regular football for the Robins, he is yet to start a league game for Leeds and has had to make do with cameos off the bench.

It has led to speculation that Arsenal may trigger a recall clause in Nketiah's loan deal and take him back from Leeds in January, which could well give the Robins an opportunity to renew their interest in the player.

Yet the Athletic's David Ornstein reports that, as it stands, the Gunners will not recall Nketiah in January.

Nketiah came off the bench at half-time in Saturday's goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday and, despite being unable to find the back of the net, put in a promising performance that has led some to believe he is now close to his first league start for Leeds.

The Gunners are said to be satisfied that it shows progress from previous frustration at Elland Road, when a delegation from the Emirates attended a game against West Brom only to see Nketiah sat on the bench for 90 minutes.

Ornstein reports that, if this progress continues, then there is confidence from all parties that Nketiah will remain at Leeds until the end of the season, particularly with Gunners managing director Vinai Venkatesham having a good relationship with Leeds opposite number Angus Kinnear, who used to work at Arsenal.

It means that the Robins may have to take their striker search elsewhere in January.
