Arsenal's Stan Kroenke ranks in bottom five most popular Premier League owners, study reveals

A recent study has revealed that Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke is the 16th most popular owner in the Premier League.

Kroenke became the club's majority shareholder over 10 years ago before purchasing Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov's shares in August 2018, taking his ownership of the club beyond 90 per cent.

The American billionaire has since overseen a period of decline for the famous north London club, with the Gunners currently enduring a five-year UEFA Champions League hiatus after qualifying for the prestigious competition 19 years in a row under Arsene Wenger's tutelage.

Both Kroenke and his son, Josh, received considerable criticism for their role in the formation of the European Super League, a competition that Arsenal were named as a founding member of earlier this year before they withdrew from it less than two days later.

Now, Stan Kroenke has been named as one of the league's least popular owners in a survey conducted by Free Bets.

The survey ranks the Gunners' owner 16th amongst Premier League clubs, with Everton, Newcastle, West Ham United and Southampton the only clubs lower.

A large section of the Arsenal faithful have been hoping that Spotify owner Daniel Ek will be able to buy the club, with the Swedish billionaire having previously seen a bid of around £2billion rejected earlier this year.

Ek's statement in May read: "Inaccurate reports emerged today saying I have not made a bid for Arsenal football club. I think it's important to correct the record.

"This week, an offer was made to both Josh Kroenke and their bankers that included fan ownership, representation at the board and a golden share for the supporters.

"They replied that they don't need the money. I respect their decision but remain interested and available should that situation ever change."
