Arsenal's position on Nicolas Pepe and Kieran Tierney amid reports of transfer breakthrough

Arsenal have entered the race to sign Lille winger Nicolas Pepe.

Despite claims that a deal has been completed for the Ivorian international, football.london understand that the Gunners are in advanced talks to sign the 24-year-old.

It is a move that will end their interest in Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha.

Everton have been linked as suitors to the former Manchester United wide player after Arsenal failed to match the valuation of his club.

Napoli are also in the running to sign Pepe while his agent, Samir Khiat, has taken to social media to deny his client is on the verge of joining Manchester United.

Arsenal have been keen to upgrade their options down the right wing this summer.

Last season, Pepe scored 22 goals and set up 11 assists for Lille in Ligue 1 playing down the right flank and would provide the Gunners with the sort of wide goal threat they have lacked since Alexis Sanchez.

The breakthrough in talks to sign the Ivorian may preclude any further attempts to bring Zaha to the Emirates Stadium this summer but a deal for Kieran Tierney is believed to still be viable.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon had suggested negotiations had failed following a spate of unsuccessful bids with the north Londoners attempting to spread out their payments for the Scot.

However, with less than two weeks left of the transfer window, discussions are ongoing and Arsenal have not given up hope on signing the left-back before the start of the season.

The Gunners have so far signed three players this summer with Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli joined by Dani Ceballos, on loan from Real Madrid.

Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba has signed for Arsenal but will spend the 2019/20 season on loan with Les Verts.
