Nacho Monreal in line for Arsenal exit as Real Sociedad eye defender

Unai Emery has confirmed that Nacho Monreal could leave Arsenal before the closure of the European transfer window.

The veteran Spanish defender, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has been linked with a return to Real Sociedad.

Monreal started in Arsenal's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield but it could end up being his final appearance for the Gunners with Emery admitting that he is a player that could leave before September 2, when most continental markets close.

"He made a very big match, he's a big professional for us," Emery told football.london. "We need to speak in the next days. In Europe the transfer window isn't finished.

"We are going to speak about all the situations and possibilities. It's the reason I was speaking about, it's not normal we finished two weeks ago and in Europe it finishes in the next week.

"The squad is not completely closed for us. Some players can leave. We cannot sign others. It depends a little the next days on how we can decide on some circumstances with some players.

"With Nacho one possibility is open, we are going to speak about that."

Monreal is not the only Arsenal player who could leave in the coming days with Unai Emery having previously confirmed that he has told Mohamed Elneny and Shkodran Mustafi that they can leave the club.
