Arsenal's Mikel Arteta provides Thomas Partey injury update ahead of North London Derby

Thomas Partey will look to prove his fitness to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta ahead of Sunday's north London derby.

The midfielder picked up an injury in his side's defeat to Aston Villa last month and has been absent since.

He has missed Arsenal's last four games, a period in which they've picked up just one Premier League point.

Partey was again absent as Arteta's side stuck four past Rapid Vienna in the Europa League.

And the Spaniard has revealed that they will be monitoring the Ghanaian's fitness ahead of their short trip to Tottenham.

"He's putting a lot of pressure on us," he said on Thursday night.

"He's training tomorrow with us and let's see how it goes in the next couple of days."

Partey's return would be timely given Arsenal's rivals currently sit top of the table.

They prepared for the contest in the best possible way, seeing off their Austrian opponents with Alexandre Lacazette getting himself back on the scoresheet.

His goal was witnessed by 2000 socially-distanced fans at the Emirates as spectators begin returning to games.

And Arteta spoke highly of his team's efforts following their home reverse against Wolves.

"First of all, delighted to have fans back they make a huge difference," he said.

"We had 2000 but they were loud and they were supportive to the team so thanks to them for coming and making the effort.

"The boys wanted it I could see from the start they wanted it, they were hurt from previous game they showed the attitude and desire that is required.

"We were aggressive, we wanted to put the ball in the box we created chances. Now we have another one on Sunday."

Arteta lost out to Jose Mourinho when the pair met in this fixture last year as a late Toby Alderweireld header sealed a 2-1 win.
