Arsenal already have their Mesut Ozil successor amid creativity concerns in Mikel Arteta's squad

It seems that Mesut Ozil’s time at the Emirates Stadium could be coming to an end.

The midfielder has not played since the Premier League restart, being an unused substitute twice in that time.

Ozil has missed the last six league games with a back injury, and Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed that the German may have played his last game for the club.

"I think he's gone," Wright said . "Arsenal needed him, of course.

"But I think he's someone who is gone from Arsenal, whether he stays or Mikel gets rid of him.

"I don't think we'll be seeing too much of him."

Ozil has one year remaining on his deal at Arsenal, with it unlikely he will extend his stay beyond that if he doesn’t leave this summer.

That does however leave a space in the squad for Mikel Arteta to fill. But could the ideal replacement already be at the club?

Academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe has spent the second half of the season on loan at Huddersfield Town, so could the 19-year-old make the step up next season?

How has he performed?

Smith Rowe has impressed in his short time at Huddersfield Town, scoring two times and providing three assists in his 19 appearances at the club.

His second goal for the Terriers was the 86th minute winner against West Bromwich Albion, a goal that ultimately helped send Leeds United to the Premier League and open up the Championship promotion race while also saving Huddersfield from relegation to League One.

The teenager made what is likely to be his last appearance for Huddersfield, coming on as a second-half substitute during the 4-1 loss against Millwall in the final game of the season.

What has been said about him?

The midfielder has been tipped for a big future by a number of people, including former head of football at Huddersfield, David Webb.

“Over the next two to three years, you’re probably going to see someone who is going to have a really good career in the Premier League,” he told TalkSport .

“I definitely think he has the potential to play a number of games. I know Mikel had worked with him previously before he joined Manchester City at the academy, so he’s well acquainted with Emile’s talent and he’s a big fan of Emile as a player and person.”

Huddersfield fans have also been praising the performances of the youngster during his time at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher named Smith Rowe as one of his toughest opponents after coming up against him in a Youth Cup tie.

Smith Rowe himself has also targeted breaking into the first- team at the Emirates Stadium.

"At the end of the day the dream is to play for Arsenal. That's what I'll be working towards," he told football.london in an exclusive interview in March .

"Am I ready for the Premier League? I hope I am. After this loan hopefully I will be much more confident going back to Arsenal.

"I'd like to say I can go back and prove to everyone what I can do."

Whether the teenager can be a like for like replacement for Ozil is still to be seen, but the signs all point to an exciting future at the Emirates Stadium for the youngster who will be looking to make an impact on the first team next season.
