Arsenal's Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette hide under umbrellas in scorching Southampton sunshine

Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette were among a number of Arsenal players seen shielding themselves from the scorching sun as the Gunners beat Southampton 2-0 on Thursday.

Arsenal got their Premier League season back on track in sweltering conditions with a crucial away victory on the hottest day of the year to date, with temperatures topping 33 degrees.

With the remainder of the Premier League season to be played behind closed doors under the Project Restart protocols, it was was the players - rather than the fans - sat in the stands.

And with the blazing sun beating down in their direction, the players resorted to the rather unusual sight of shading themselves with Southampton-branded umbrellas.

While Lacazette looked calm and relaxed under his umbrella before making his way to the field as a second-half substitute, Ozil - still to make an appearance following the restart - perhaps looked slightly more stern.

Nevertheless, after bitterly disappointing defeats to both Manchester City and Brighton, Mikel Arteta will have been mightily relieved to get his side back into the top half and into ninth, just two points behind rivals Tottenham in seventh.

Arteta will also have been relieved to have won his first Premier League game on the road since his appointment as Arsenal manager.
