Arsenal's Lucas Torreira: There are not many things I enjoy about life in England

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has opened up about his struggles adapting to English life, admitting the language barrier and climate are two things he does not enjoy about the country.

Uruguay international Torreira joined the Gunners from Italian side Sampdoria in the summer of 2018, and went on to make 34 Premier League appearances during which time he scored two goals.

Despite seeming to settle in quickly at Arsenal, the 23-year-old revealed how not knowing English made his ability to connect with his teammates tough while admitting he doesn't enjoy too many things about England.

Asked about life on these shores, Torreira told Uruguayan outlet Ovacion: "I don’t know if there are many things that I enjoy.

"I think it was better in Italy. England is a totally different world, a very large country.

"The language [barrier] has stopped me, to be able to relate with my teammates and with the people. It is very difficult when you can’t have dialogue.

"And so is the climate. You go out in the morning and it is cloudy, you arrive late to your home and it is cloudy.

"It is strange a little bit, the sun, the more of us that we are here and we are accustomed to having always or almost always the sun. But as the years pass, I’m going to be adapting."

The midfielder has been linked with a move to AC Milan, where former Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis is now based.

The Serie A side are said to be contemplating bringing in Sampdoria coach Marco Giampaolo, who Torreira worked with during his time in Italy.

But the 23-year-old suggested that despite not yet enjoying life in England, he intends on sticking it out at Arsenal.

"I had to get used to playing every three days, which is very hard. There were many more matches," he added.

"But for me, the balance was positive and I am satisfied and happy with what I did in the year."
