Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer believes Arsenal will not be able to tie star frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down to a new contract.
Aubameyang is out of contract next summer and there are concerns he could be sold this summer or even be allowed to walk away for free after next season if he does not pen a new deal.
Shearer believes that could well be the case due to the Gunners' inability to offer the Gabon international a Mesut Ozil-like contract.
"When you look at the Aubameyang situation with his contract, I don’t see him signing a contract there," said the former Newcastle striker said on Match of the Day.
"He’ll look at the salary Mesut Ozil is on and say ‘okay, give me that’. There’s no way they can give him that, it was a huge mistake to give Mesut Ozil that salary, he can’t even get into the team at Brighton.
"It’s one thing at Manchester City, but when you’re going to Brighton and you know you’ve got to be creative, he can’t even get into the team, and it’s not only this manager that hasn’t picked him."
Aubameyang has scored 49 times in 77 league appearance since arriving at the Emirates Stadium from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on a club-record £56m deal in 2018.
Arsenal are in talks to keep the 31-year-old at the club but they are yet to strike a deal with the summer transfer window fast-approaching.
