Arsenal's hopes of completing Jerome Boateng transfer given boost by Bayern Munich boss

Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has refused to rule out the possibility of Jerome Boateng joining Arsenal this month but admitted he 'can't imagine' a departure.

The Germany international has been touted as a potential first signing for Mikel Arteta, as the Gunners look to bolster their defensive ranks following Calum Chambers' season-ending injury.

31-year-old Boateng has fallen down the pecking order in Bavaria and a move for the former Manchester City defender has been reported to be on the cards.

However, while Flick did not rule out the possibility of Boateng returning to the Premier League, he stated that his focus is not currently on transfer matters.

"Jerome is a Bayern player. He has trained well during the winter break," he said.

"I can't wait to see what the next few weeks will be like. I'm not worrying about if he'll leave the club or not. I can't imagine that at the moment."

Boateng has made close to 200 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern since joining the club in 2011, lifting seven league titles and the UEFA Champions League.

He was also part of the Germany squad that lifted the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, alongside Arsenal pair Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi.
