Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli responds to Emi Martinez amid injury scare ahead of Chelsea clash

Gabriel Martinelli has handed Arsenal an injury scare after limping off in the second half of the Carabao Cup clash against Manchester City.

The Gunners were knocked out of the competition after a 4-1 defeat to Pep Guardiola's side at the Emirates on Tuesday night.

Goals from Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte sealed a comfortable win for the visitors, and increased the pressure on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

There was further woe for Arsenal, with Martinelli having to be withdrawn after half-time after sustaining a heavy knock.

The teenager was making his first start in nine months after regaining fitness following a serious knee injury suffered in training.

Martinelli showed glimpses of his talent and impressed with the assist for Alexandre Lacazette's equaliser.

But the Brazilian was involved in a collision with City keeper Zack Steffen in stoppage time and limped towards the dressing room at half-time.

The striker was sent out for the second half, but had to be replaced by Nicolas Pepe shortly after the restart.

Arsenal will now be sweating on the youngster's fitness ahead of the Boxing Day clash against Chelsea at the Emirates.

Speaking after the game, Arteta delivered an update on Martinelli's condition.

Martinelli shared Martinez's picture (Instagram)

"No, no, no, it was just a really bad kick on his shin and it was swelling up, and he was in pain and came off."

Martinelli himself, took to social media after the game to post some pictures from the match.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez uploaded an image on his Instagram story to show his sadness at the injury scare, and Martinelli reshared the post.
