Arsenal have agreed a deal with Derby County to defer a payment of £1.4million for their former midfielder Krystian Bielik, according to the latest reports from the Telegraph.
The report states that the Championship club have entered administration and owed another cash instalment to the Gunners for Bielik this month.
Failure to pay the fee would’ve added a threat of another charge being added to their current transfer embargo for non-payment.
As a result of their poor financial situation, Derby were unable to pay the seven-figure instalment for October.
However, Arsenal have struck an agreement to delay the payment until next year to help with the Rams’ cash-flow.
Derby signed Bielik in 2019 in a club record fee worth up to £10million but the 23-year-old has suffered two serious knee injuries since joining, the second of which he is still recovering from.
Speaking on Tuesday, Carl Jackson, a member of Derby’s administrators Quantuma, said: “We’ve had some very positive discussions with Arsenal and they’ve allowed us to defer those payments until a later date.
“That has freed up some cash for us and that’s been agreed in writing.
“It will certainly help our cash-flow over the course of the next two to three months and also sorts out any threatened embargo from the EFL at the same time.”
Derby also owe money to Polish club Lech Poznan for winger Kamil Jozwiak, taking their overall transfer debt over the £10million mark.
Meanwhile, their problems also include the £26million owed to HM Revenue and Customs.
Arsenal are reportedly still owed around £8million for the Polish international, and any prospective buyer will have to take on that payment as a liability, but this development is a welcomed boost for Derby at least.
