Arsenal’s biggest ‘problem’ could end up winning them the title, says Tony Cascarino

Arsenal could have the depth of their squad to thank, should they go all the way and win the Premier League title.

That is according to Tony Cascarino, who believes the Gunners have solved what was initially described as a key reason why their bid to end a two-decade wait for the crown would ultimately fail.

Sunday’s win over Fulham owed a lot to Leandro Trossard’s creativity as the January signing had a hand in all three goals, catching the eye of former Chelsea and Ireland star Cascarino.

The Belgian’s fine form since signing as a back-up to Arsenal’s first-choice front three follows key moments by the likes of Reiss Nelson in continuing the club’s title push.

“When Arsenal started their charge at the top of the table one of the problems that people said would hold them back was that they didn’t have a strong squad,” he wrote in The Times.

“They had a good starting XI but there wasn’t sufficient squad depth to mount a title challenge.

“But this is just another instance of [Mikel] Arteta’s Arsenal proving people wrong. The signing of Leandro Trossard has been brilliant.

“Not only does he provide cover for a number of positions but also he’s given Arsenal another way of playing with this fluid front line alongside Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli — they’ve gelled quickly.

“Add to that the signing of Jorginho and the impact made by Reiss Nelson, who scored that late winner against Bournemouth. Instead of costing them the title, squad depth could help Arsenal win it.”
