Arsenal's best player so far this season revealed - and it's not Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal's start to the Premier League season has been decent.

After seven games they've lost just once - against leaders Liverpool at Anfield - and go into the final round of games before the October international break in the top four.

However, defensive issues remain as seen in the majority of games and that's certainly an area in which head coach Unai Emery will need to work on as the campaign progresses.

A key player at the start of the season has been Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

He's scored in all but one Premier League appearance thus far and without his contributions the Gunners would be struggling near the foot of the table.

However, the club's leading scorer is not Arsenal's best player in the Premier League so far this season.

That honour goes to midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

Via OptaPro, the Frenchman is statistically the best player in the Gunners' team following the first seven games of the new Premier League campaign.

To determine a team's best player, those with a minimum of 360 minutes under their belts are considered and is 'based on their contribution to the overall probability of their team scoring a goal'.

From the image above, Guendouzi's Possession Value is just under 0.5 per 90 minutes.

Furthermore, he's ranked fourth across the entire Premier League behind Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Manchester City's Riyad Mahrez and Leicester City star James Maddison.

Such has been Guendouzi's impressive start to his second season in English football that he was heavily praised by former Gunners midfielder Cesc Fabregas following the 1-1 draw with Manchester United at the beginning of week.

"Gotta love Guendouzi," the Spaniard tweeted. "Can play good or not so good but always shows up in difficult moments at such a young age.

"Big future ahead of him at Arsenal."

Next up for Guendouzi, Aubameyang and company is the visit of Bournemouth - a point behind them in the table - on Sunday afternoon.
