Arsenal's best player in October revealed - and it's not Thomas Partey or Mohamed Elneny

Arsenal's start to the Premier League season has not really been anything to write home about.

They have won four out of their opening seven matches but sit ninth after defeats against Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester City.

However, they performed well to shut out Manchester United and take all three points from Sunday's encounter at Old Trafford.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored from the penalty spot to hand Arsenal their first win at United since 2006.

Mikel Arteta impressed by how well Gabriel and Partey have settled in

Mikel Arteta made a number of new signings over the summer including veteran winger Willian and midfield enforcer Thomas Partey.

The latter has enjoyed a solid start to life in North London and has been tipped to greatly improve Arsenal's ability in the middle of the park.

However, he was not named as Arsenal's best player during October, with fans instead crowning fellow new arrival Gabriel Magalhaes as their star man throughout last month.

football.london gave readers the opportunity to decide their Player of the Month, with Magalhaes, who joined from Lille over the summer, winning a whopping 77% of the popular vote.

Partey was his closest rival but took home just 8.8% of votes, ahead of Spanish defender Hector Bellerin (5.7%), midfielder Mohamed Elneny (4.8%) and youngster Bukayo Saka (3.7%).

Magalhaes has played six times for Arsenal in the Premier League this season and scored on the opening day against Fulham back in September.

Former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell has been left blown away by his impact at the heart of Arteta's defence, telling Football Insider that to sign him for just £22 million was an 'absolute steal'.

“Finally Arsenal have got a centre-back who wants to defend, who likes to defend,” he said.

“You see Gabriel back there and he is making the players around him better. That is the sign of a top-class player.

“He is powerful, quick, strong, good on the ball and good in the air – Arsenal stole him for that price!

“That is an absolute steal because he is only going to get better. A very strong player that is only in his twenties. A signing that has hit the ground running straight away.”
