Arsenal's beat-the-deadline transfer plan to sign Kieran Tierney before window closes

Arsenal are trying to push through a beat-the-deadline deal for Celtic defender Kieran Tierney.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is desperate to strengthen his defence before the window shuts and is also in the market for a centre half.

But Tierney still remains in their sights after a summer-long chase but they are still in talks with Celtic as they try to broker a deal even though the Scottish champions have already turned down £25m.

Arsenal feared they might have to put a deal on January but they are making one last push and know that Tierney is keen to move to the Emirates.

Arsenal have struggled to put together a package because of their limited budget this summer and even their record breaking £72m deal for Nicolas Pepe is spread over payments.

They believe a deal for left back Tierney can be done while Arsenal are also looking for a last gasp deal on a centre half.

Arsenal are no longer interested in Juventus defender Daniele Rugani - who was a loan target but the Serie A club want a permanent deal - and Red Bull Leipzig’s £50m rated Dayot Upamecano.

But they are looking for loan options or an older defender on a lower fee to bolster their defensive options.

Arsenal have rejected a £30m approach from Everton for Alex Iwobi and stressed the Nigeria midfielder is part of Emery's first team plans.
