Arsenal’s anger as Kieran Tierney is forced to self-isolate for a fortnight in Scotland

Arsenal have been left furious at the handling of Kieran Tierney’s isolation by the Scottish FA and are working to bring him back to London.

Tierney has been forced to self-isolate for 14 days, having been identified as a ‘close contact’ of Scotland team-mate Stuart Armstrong, who has tested positive for coronavirus.

A two-week period of isolation would mean the 23-year-old missing Arsenal’s trip to Manchester City after the international break.

Tierney, Armstrong and Celtic’s Ryan Christie were playing video games in a hotel room before they learned of the Southampton midfielder’s positive result, though Tierney has insisted they were socially distant at all times.

The Arsenal full-back has returned three negative tests this week — one with the Gunners and two with Scotland — and has also tested positive for Covid-19 antibodies, a sign he has had the infection before.

Arsenal medical staff were caught by surprise when informed by the Scottish FA that a statement was being made moments before the announcement and were not consulted on Tierney’s situation.

Tierney said: “I’m so disappointed and frustrated. I have adhered to all regulations. I’ve also tested negative.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Hale End Academy was closed today and being deep cleaned after a member of staff tested positive for Covid-19 .
