Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga transfer edging closer as Anderlecht provide major clue

Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga appears closer than ever to joining Arsenal after he was missing from Anderlecht’s pre-season training camp.

The young Belgian has been strongly linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium this summer as Mikel Arteta attempts to bolster his squad.

football.london understands that Sambi Lokonga has agreed personal terms with the Gunners already ahead of a move, whilst Arsenal and Anderlecht have also agreed on a fee.

That leaves just the medical to complete before the midfielder can become an Arsenal player officially.

Meanwhile, his current club Anderlecht have dropped a hint that a deal could be close.

According to Belgian journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen, Sambi Lokonga was not present for Anderlecht’s pre-season training camp as he awaits the deal to be completed.

Interestingly enough, the 21-year-old was included on the original squad list for the camp as the Belgian giants travel to Alkmaar to take on FC Utrecht and AZ Alkmaar in preparation for the 2021/22 season.

His absence then would appear to suggest that a move to Arsenal is edging ever closer.

Should he complete a move to the Emirates Stadium soon, he is likely to become the Gunners’ second signing of the summer.

Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares was filmed at Lisbon Airport last week ahead of a flight to London as his respective move also moves closer to completion.

Despite Sambi Lokonga looking likely, Arsenal continue to be linked with a whole host of midfielders including Sander Berge and Yves Bissouma.

football.london understands that interest in the Brighton man has cooled despite the player himself being interested in the move.
