Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale had the last laugh in a hostile Elland Road when the Gunners beat Leeds 4-1 in mid-December.
The home crowd were quick to get on the England international’s back during the game, attempting to put him off in a bid to help their team win the game.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side blew Marcelo Bielsa away as a Gabriel Martinelli brace and a goal from Bukayo Saka put the visitors 3-0 up before half-time.
Raphinha pulled one back for the hosts from the penalty spot, but Emile Smith Rowe restored the three-goal cushion from the bench in the last ten minutes.
Ramsdale was another who enjoyed his evening, even if he couldn’t take a clean sheet back to north London he did get some mementos from the clash.
The goalkeeper revealed a new funny anecdote from the clash with Leeds that pocketed him an extra £17.
Speaking on the podcast of fellow glovesman Ben Foster, Ramsdale said: “After the first [goal], there were some bottles and stuff thrown, a few lighters and I chucked them off to the side. The next thing you know, money started coming on.
“There was one two quid, and I collect those so I took that, then there’s quids and 50ps, so I picked them up and I put them by my towel. At half time I put them in my towel, I ran off and put them in the changing room.
“Second half comes, a few more come, and then an E-cig comes on just before the penalty.
“So I’ve come back in and I’m speaking to Kalvin Phillips like ‘your fans must be loaded, like’ it was about 17 quid that I pulled off the pitch and I missed some money.”
The 23-year-old has impressed since making the switch from Sheffield United in the summer, changing the opinion of many who raised an eyebrow at the £24million paid for a number one who was relegated the season before.
His form for Arsenal has led him to a first senior England cap under Gareth Southgate, with many suggesting he could become the new first choice ahead of Jordan Pickford.
Ramsdale has also won many fans over with his character, showing passion on the pitch with some entertaining off-the-ball moments too.
It’s fair to say Ramsdale found the funny side of the occasion and despite the abuse he received, the England goalkeeper walked off the pitch with the last laugh.
