Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale reveals hilarious nickname he has been given amid England omission

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has revealed that Kieran Trippier took to calling him ‘Boris’ during Euro 2020.

The stopper, who was signed from Sheffield United this summer, has performed well during his first few weeks as a Gunner.

He has impressed between the sticks since overtaking Bernd Leno as Mikel Arteta’s first choice goalkeeper, and his displays certainly appear to have taken the eye of Gareth Southgate with Ramsdale having been rewarded with a place in the England squad.

He will certainly hope that a nickname former Spurs defender Kieran Trippier thought of does not rear its head again though.

Talking to England’s First Impressions YouTube show, he said: “I’ve got Rammers and Rambo. Trips [Kieran Tripper] thought it was a good idea to call me Boris in the Euros. That hasn’t caught on.

“That was in the summer so I think he’s forgot which is really, really good for me.”

The comparisons with the current UK Prime Minister possibly come from Ramsdale’s very similar bleach blonde hair, although a comparison made by his former club to a reptile is surely worse - despite there being a very good reason.

Ramsdale continued: “And then Sheff United lads called me lizard.

“If you ever see me doing anything, I’ll have my tongue out. Any concentration, my tongue is out. Rammers and Rambo are my nicknames which I prefer people call me.”

Ramsdale has so far made seven appearances for Arsenal since his switch to the Emirates Stadium this summer, claiming five clean sheets. He has been left on the bench for the Three Lions clash with Andorra in favour of Sam Johnstone but will hope to earn an opportunity against Hungary next week.
