Ben White has come under huge amounts of pressure after signing for Arsenal in a £50m deal from Brighton & Hove Albion.
A record-breaking transfer fee for a defender at Arsenal, fans have been expecting him to be a catalyst for change in a backline that has been constantly criticised in recent years.
However, after a shaky debut against Brentford where the Gunners were beaten, the critics started to roll in against White who were labelling him a flop.
Despite this, the Englishman has had a change of form since this opening day defeat which has benefited the club.
Arsenal had a dreadful start to the season where the team had conceded nine goals in three games and had lost all of three of these without scoring.
Ben White only featured in the 2-0 opening day defeat which was a horrid night for the Gunners.
The England international is a player who is considered a ball carrier and creative from the back rather than a tough-tackling, brick wall of a player.
And since the return of the international break which also saw a comeback for Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, White has benefited to the maximum.
The partnership has seen the club go on a five-game unbeaten in the Premier League run since then and three clean sheets have been maintained in the process.
White has been pivotal to the change in form at the club and his best performance came in the north London derby against Spurs.
Harry Kane has a magnificent record in this fixture and is almost a guarantee to score at the Emirates, however, White had completely nullified his threat and his tackle on Kane in the first half led to a goal scored by Bukayo Saka.
The 23-year-old’s impressive form since the September international break also means that he has kept more clean sheets then other world-class defenders who have joined the league this season which includes the likes of Raphael Varane who has kept one clean sheet in his first five games.
With Ben White only being In his early twenties the ceiling is certainly high for the promising defender and if he can stay fit alongside Gabriel, then fans can expect to see a lot more clean sheets maintained in the future.
