Arsenal's search for a new right-back has seen them linked with a move for RB Leipzig's Tyler Adams.
According to The Athletic, Adams is seen as an addition that could potentially plug a number of gaps in Mikel Arteta's squad - including both in central midfield and at right-back.
Furthermore, the Arsenal manager and technical director Edu might well have been handed encouragement in their attempts to sign Adams with the news that he has a release clause inserted in his contract at the Red Bull Arena, according to CBS.
Whilst the value of that clause has not been disclosed, it could make a summer deal more straightforward, as the Gunners would not need to enter negotiations with the Bundesliga outfit.
However, there are still a few significant problems if the Gunners hope to recruit Adams.
One being that they face competition from a number of Premier League clubs, including those set to play in Europe next season - a luxury that Arsenal can't offer.
And the other being the 22-year-old could even elect to remain at RB Leipzig as Jesse Marsch, who was his boss at former club New York Red Bulls, is set to take the reins at Leipzig after Julian Nagelsmann’s switch to Bayern Munich.
"To again meet up with him, go after trophies together, compete in the Champions League together, will be really special," Adams said earlier in the month.
"Anytime you can be coached by an American in Europe it will be really cool."
With that said, it might also be cool for Adams to be reunited with a player from his recent past in Arsenal wonderkid Emile Smith Rowe.
The pair were teammates during the second half of the 2018/2019 season when the latter joined Leipzig on loan to aid his development and have kept in touch ever since.
In fact, on Instagram as per The Boot Room, Adams called Smith Rowe his idol following Arsenal's north London derby win over Tottenham at the Emirates.
As previously reported by football.london, Arsenal will be in the transfer market to sign players in at least five positions in the coming months.
It will be interesting as to what Adams' release clause figure actually is as his estimated transfer value on CIES Football Observatory is between €40m-€50m (£34m-£42m).
If the release clause is lower than the aforementioned valuation, it could be a good idea to activate it as soon as possible as the Gunners could be getting themselves a bargain.
