Arsenal's £300million decision vindicated as Adidas becomes leading Premier League manufacturer

New research has vindicated Arsenal's decision to partner with Adidas back in 2018.

The Gunners agreed a reported £300million deal with Adidas three years ago, replacing Puma as the club's kit manufacturer at the end of the 2018/19 season.

The deal with the German company is set to be five years, meaning the Gunners receive around £60million per year - double the £30million that they had previously agreed with Puma, who had partnered with the north Londoners between 2014 and 2019.

Arsenal had previously partnered with Adidas between 1986 and 1994, producing a number of iconic jerseys, including the famous 'Bruises Banana' shirt that they donned during the 1991/92 and 92/93 campaigns.

Now, research from Club Kit Showdown has revealed that Adidas is the leading manufacturer of the top 50 Premier League kits of the past five seasons.

During the ongoing international break, Mobilewins.co.uk analysed 540 different playing strips, using a combination of metrics; search keywords, organic traffic to online club shops and Twitter sentiment analysis to score the teams in the English top-flight based on the desirability of their home, away, third and goalkeeping kits across the past five years.

Introduction of safe standing, the effects of Newcastle's takeover, the world cup in Qatar - have your say on football's biggest issues in the survey below.

The study concluded that Adidas dominated, making 40% of the top 50 kits, a whopping 8% more than fierce rival Nike - who sponsored Arsenal for 20 years until their agreement ended in 2014.

Teams wearing Adidas-made shirts have also recorded the most points across the last five campaigns, accumulating 289 points, 107 points more than Nike, according to the study.

The Gunners will hope that they can add to this points tally on Monday night as they host Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium before Aston Villa travel to north London four days later.
