Arsenal risk repeating Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang issue with Arthur Melo transfer

Arsenal target Arthur Melo's discipline record could be a worry for head coach Mikel Arteta amid loan talks for the Juventus star.

The north London side are hopeful of signing Arthur on loan until the end of the season, football.london understands, with technical director Edu said to be a long-term admirer of the Brazilian international.

Head coach Mikel Arteta is currently short of options in the centre of the park, allowing Ainsley Maitland-Niles to join AS Roma on loan whilst both Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are currently at the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, a disciplinary incident from Arthur could be a worry for Arteta as the talented playmaker showed up late for training last month before Massimiliano Allegri decided to drop him against Venezia.

Speaking before the game against the Venice-based side, Allegri confirmed that the 25-year-old's poor punctuality cost him a place in the matchday squad.

"Mattia De Sciglio is fine, whilst Weston McKennie will be back next week", the Italian said. "Aaron Ramsey is still out, and Arthur arrived late for training today, and so will not be called up."

This may worry the Gunners as it sounds a little too familiar, after a recent battle with striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was stripped of his captaincy duties back in December due to disciplinary problems.

Aubameyang had even been dropped for last season's 2-1 win against local rivals Tottenham Hotspur after the Gabon international reportedly showed up late for a team meeting ahead of kick-off.

Arteta will hope to avoid any such conflicts if Arthur does make the move to the Emirates Stadium, although, it would likely just be initially on a temporary basis.
