Arsenal reveal when Bernd Leno and Calum Chambers could return from injury in double update

Arsenal have delivered a double injury update on Bernd Leno and Calum Chambers.

The former sustained moderate ligament sprain during the loss at Brighton and Hove Albion in the second game after the Premier League season resumed, but the injury wasn't as bad as first feared.

Meanwhile, Chambers ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee during the home defeat against London rivals Chelsea late last year.

Arsenal vs Liverpool: Mikel Arteta full press conference

Both players are at different stages in their rehabilitation, with the German potentially being available before the end of the season, but Chambers' return may not be until 2021.

Via the club's official website, an update on Leno reads:

"Now participating in outside running, with the aim of starting ball drills in the next few days."

An update on Chambers reads:

"Progressed to the next stage of his recovery and is now running and integrating outside with light ball work.

"Will continue to work hard throughout the close season period with the aim of being back to full training as soon as possible this calendar year."

In Chambers' absence, Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta has tinkered with his central defensive options in a bid to find the right platform to build upon.

Recently he has settled for a back three with Shkodran Mustafi, David Luiz, Rob Holding, Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney all being given a chance.

As for Leno, he could find it difficult to reclaim his spot from Emiliano Martinez.

The Argentine hasn't put a foot wrong since being handed an opportunity in between the sticks, with his brilliant save against Liverpool highlighting his impressive form.

Although it would appear that Arteta will soon have a big decision to make regarding his first-choice stopper.
